I bought an orchid at a local show last week - the tag says: "Rhyv. colmarie". Since it looked like a Vanda to me, I Googled the tag name to find out what Rhyv. means.
No luck: I found references to: Rhyv. Colmarie (Rhyv. Sri-Siam x Rhy. Gigantea) from Santa Barbara orchid show. I also found: Vanda Colmarie (Rhyv. Sri-Siam x Rhy. Gigantea).
What does Rhyv. and Rhy. stand for??
Thanks!! (By the way, the "sample" plant in flower smelled awesome!!)
That's Vandachostylis (Vanda x Rhynchostylis) - hybrid of (Vandachostylis Sri-Siam x Rhynchostylis gigantea Red)
I see abbreviation for this as Van. - but there have been some recent name changes, so I don't know which is currently accepted. But, the RHS website DOES have it registered as Vandachostylis, so I would think that is the current correct name.
