I was wondering if there are any orchids that you shouldnt use seaweed extract on? Any stage of root, leaf or bloom devlopment that should be avoided?
I just bought some and want to make sure....Jean

Some growers don't use seaweed during the winter because it contains growth hormones and they want their plants to rest and bloom during the winter months. I use it on all my orchids during the spring and summer. I use it at one ounce per gallon every two weeks (for Maxicrop Liquid Seaweed). If you're using another product, follow the directions on the label. It's a mild product so you don't have to worry about burning any roots. I don't know of any orchids that won't benefit from it.

Hope not because I use it on everything! So far everything seems to like it I use it about every 2nd to 4th watering all year round but as they don't get watered nearly as often in winter they don't get it as often anyway.

Yes, it would be appropriate to use it now. Remember, it's not a fertilizer. You still need to use a fertilizer on your orchids.

I use the seaweed mix once a month, in addition to my fertilizer regimin. Its a separate application and not used at the same time as the "normal" fertilizer. I do, however, mix a bit of home grown worm tea in with the seaweed though.
