Are you orchid obsessed?
Wasn't sure where to post this, moderaters can move it if need be...
Are you totally orchid obsessed? And I mean really obsessed. For the past month, I couldn't think of anything but the orchid show in March, it will only be my second one. My main interest is orchids and that main interest hadn't changed since March 2011. It's aweful! I can't think about anything else hardly, does this wear off? Every time I get a new plant, new supplies, or something, I go crazy and get excited. Anyone else like this?

I used to be just like that! Super crazy obsessed with them. I still am, but not quite as much. Life has been too busy lately to really go crazy; my interest is faded some. But I still love them.

I have a tendency to be super obsessed with something then lose interest or get distracted by something shinier and then pick it back up again in cycles lasting from days to years. Right now, the phals on my sill are putting out new branches, spikes, buds or roots like crazy and so I stare at and inspect them daily right now. When they all finally bloom, I'll probably find them pretty to look at but lose interest until they start 'doing something' (like growing new leaves) again. Luckily, so far, even when I lost interest in them, I didn't neglect them much and still watered, fertilized repotted etc.

I used to be just like that Life has become busier in the last couple of years and the orchids have taken a slightly lower priority but I still love them and spend a lot of my spare time caring for them.

I get excited about my orchids from the fall through the spring. That's when most of my orchids bloom. In the summer I have very few blooms and I get a little board.
My interests are constantly changing. Initially I was crazy about cattleyas. After a few years I got excited about vandas. Then I got interested in growing mounted orchids. Right now I'm starting to get excited about paphs. There's always something new to learn about.

Indeed, I am currently just as obsessed. I spend my days job hunting and looking at orchids, lol.. Though just a few months ago the job was so intense that everything paled. I think your obsession is normal and natural, just depends upon other things going on in life as others have suggested, lol...

That sounds just like how I am with orchids!
I need actions to keep me focused.

I have the same issues in the summer time when orchid (or in fact any plants for my apartment) flowers are scarce. Too hot for anything I guess.
I tried tuberous begonias, but with so much heat in the apartment, they quickly go downhill. oh, well...
I usually have some phals and paphs in bloom in the summer, occasionally mini catt and dendrobiums will bloom but very short lived.
So I buy lots of fresh cutflowers to keep me excited.
