Is there anyone out there growing this species? I was reading up on it and it seems that it's generally pretty hardy and easy to take care of...from australia where it occasionally gets snowed on. Sounds like it would be an easy species to take care of as a part-time indoor (Winter) outdoor (spring/summer) plant. Not too much info on where to get one though. Just fishing for some info as to if anyone has one and if/where to get my hands on one.

Thanks!

Don't know where to get one, but like it very much - will be looking this one up!

Looked it up and found a link to Down Under Native Orchids - unsure of shipping, CITES etc, but it is a starting point.

Look for Dendrobium striolatum. Don't know which is currently correct. SBOE (sborchid.com) has a couple of versions.

I grow this one but I am also lucky enough to be within its native range and have it growing on rocks not far from my house! It is indeed very hardy, I have had bits fall to the floor of the patio only to be found when I swept behind the pots and they were growing happily :P.

I have just remounted mine on a net mount made out of plastic gutter leaf guard mesh stuffed with a mixture of sphagnum and live moss. I think it will really like this mount but time will tell.

If these home made mounts work well I plan to eventually use them to make a patchwork 'green wall' in my patio.

I would contact the Australian Orchid Nursery. They may not have it on their site but I suspect they would stock it and other members had plants shipped overseas from him recently.

Here is the one I just mounted, there are a few other bits floating around the pots but I am hoping this one will expand to become a nice specimen for me

Thanks GreenGarden.

I emailed Wayne at Australian Orchid Nursery and he emailed me back. It soundsl like he'll ship me a small one for $8 bucks plus $7 shipping. Does that sound right? I always assumed that there were fees for getting plants shipped overseas? Or should I just smile and give him my money and stop asking questions?

Let us know how that works out (size, delivery time, etc.) There are a couple of Aussie species I'm interested in and at those prices, obtainable.

One of the other OB members over there was getting things from him, cymbidiums. It was the person doing them in SH if someone remembers.

He is a very large, very reputable wholesale nursery so I would be very surprised if he was doing things dodgy. I think it's a lot easier for us to send things to you than it is the other way around because we have such strict inbound customs as a lot of diseases haven't made it here yet.

I'm pretty sure CITES and phytosanitary paper work are required but if they can ship here with them at those prices, I'd be game. (Although the shipping cost is suspect. Its more than double that to 2 day ship from southern California to northern California).

There are a couple or more members here with some sort of import permits, could have been one of them.
