- I'm new to the orchidboard but have been keeping orchids for quite a while. I have a few mounted orchids - have you thought about trying Baptistonia Echinata? Photo of mine attached, mount is slightly smaller than yours I think, but it seems quite happy. It's been on there for a couple of years and the root structure isn't too big either which is a plus

loddigesii would get pretty messy on a mount like that wouldn't it? Maybe better suited to a horizontal raft type mount? I've only seen it a few times so maybe I'm of base there though?...

Ordphien:
Have you checked out the "Miniatures Show and Tell" section of the Board? There are tons of mini's there and often the culture is given.
Just a thought -
Steve

Great idea - can't wait to see how you work out the dry rest period, but hopefully you can find a way - your grouping sounds really interesting.
Steve
They are all listed as slow growers.. Which works in my favour.
Can you pry mounts loose? A lot of these plants I can only find mounted and I really don't want them that way...

Honestly I'm thinking of replacing it with a more suitable plant that won't require a winter rest.
And then moving that plant to another small mount And pairing it with a mini dendrobium. One of the dendrobiums mentioned earlier also needs a "slight" winter rest.

What I can order where also affects what my mounts will have..
I'm digging Andy's prices and some of his mini's, but he doesn't have a lot that I want.
I found a site called orchidweb that's more expensive but that have many minis that I want. I haven't Google to see if they are reputable yet.

I am going to leave these questions to others that currently mount more than I do. I am sure that others will have suppliers that may have better prices and they can instruct you better in removing a plant from a mount. I have done it, but was never happy with the results as I ended up really damaging the root system.
So - someone chime in and help this member out!!
Will still be monitoring the post as I want to see what others have to add to the thread!

They are a reasonably big plant but they have a very small root footprint so they can give you a great show on a small mount. I could have one mounted happily on a 1 inch block of cork if I wanted! I attach old mans beard tillandsias around them which keeps the humidity up as well.
Tee hee... this is small to me...

The problem with most dendrobiums is the fact that they will outshine they mount... I know this may sound silly since mounts are normally just the medium to present the true start of the show.. the orchid.
But for this wanted the orchids to compliment the mount. I want them smaller and demure in stature..
My vision is a plant covered mount that still gives you they essence of the wood..
And I'm starting to sound ridiculous now... so I'll stop there.

Is orchid care similar to tillandsia care?
Just found out my nursery has buckets and buckets of them for 25¢ each

Thats a cute plant.
Everyone needs to stop procuring amazing plants.where are all the ugly orchids? Lol..
Unfortunately.. though it would fit on the mount I feel they plant would be overbearing for the mount.
Or maybe I just want an excuse to buy really tiny orchids.... I don't know.
I'm currently fretting over sooner off my choices because I feel the phal like leaves will be distracting... Which they probably still won't...

And because of other orchid choices I've determined I'm gonna keep my plant choices in the low light requirement end since that's what most of my orchids I've chosen like.
