masdevallia regina x cary - sequential bloomer? Female
Default masdevallia regina x cary - sequential bloomer?

My masd. cary x regina has a beautiful bloom on it, and another one has started to develop on the same spike like a sequential bloomer. I didn't think this hybrid was sequential. Has anyone else experienced this?

One or two of my Masdie hybrids do that. I think Redwing is one. Just as the first bloom is starting to go another one forms. Never had a third one form on the same stem so I wouldn't call it sequential, maybe just a bonus.

Congratulations Kelly it appears your cross is a sequential bloomer. Do you know if either parent is a sequential?

Bill you are correct - Redwing is a hybrid that will have two blooms per spike. Three species masdie that bloom with more than two blooms per spike are amplexa, princeps and ayabacana. I've had as many as 10 blooms on one spike from the last two I mentioned. The amplexa is usually five blooms per one spike. All three laugh at my warm summers.
