Default Seed pod is cracking open

Hello Everyone - Merry Christmas!
I have crossed a BLC and a SLC that I really like. The cross took and a couple months ago the seed pod formed. It is now huge and today I noticed two cracks had formed along the top two edges of the pod. The cracks don't go to the seeds yet, but I am sure that is where it is headed.
I want to flask these seeds, and have never had a pod mature. Should I tape a baggie around the pod in case it completely opens? The pod is still green - should I wait until it starts to dry before I remove it? - I really don't think it will last that long, but again I am in unknown territory here.
Any info about this is appreciated.
Again, Happy Holidays !
Steve

Since the pod is already starting to open your best bet is to encased the pod in either a coffee filter or a paper towel Enclosing it in a baggie will only encourage rot and mold.

Thanks sweetjblue:
The guy that is going to flask it for me had me take the bag off and then wrap it and seal it in wax paper. I was not sure what to do at this time. But I have it wrapped and we are ready to go!
Happy Holidays!

If this is the same seed pod you showed a picture of in another recent post, I don't think your seed pod will have seeds. The very dark green of the pod doesn't look like any Catt seed pod we have done. Usually they develop ridges as they grow larger and then when ripe, the yellow starts closest to the stem.

If you did the cross a couple of months ago it usually takes several months for the seed to ripen. I hope I'm wrong and you have crossed the next best Catt ever hybridized. Good luck!

What a kind Christmas wish for me! If it has seed, not prob, if not no prob. Just wanted to get info on this as I have grown orchids for years, but have not tried crossing them.
As far as the ridges, that is the part I initially said was cracking. I have seen Cat seed pods before and the ones I have seen are triangular shaped overall. This pod has the three sides and edges and the edges have started to split open; this may just be the natural development of the pod. Now, technically it has six edges on it, as the three have opened into a "V" shape.
Does that make ANY sense?
Have a great Christmas!!!!
Thanks for the info.
