Tips for very little Vandas

Hello,

Can you give me some tips for this very little Vandas? I would like to hear the voice of the experience.

How do you usually culture them?

The size is around 3cm, so not much.

I usually start out the little guys in a plastic basket with some EpiWeb to hold it steady. Daily watering till the roots turn green, high light. Once they start to grow, the whole thing including the EpiWeb that has some roots growing through it can be moved into a larger basket.

Susanne B is right on target. Thats what I would do also and have done in the past. I have NOT had an Ascon. or Vanda die on me. Good luck with yours.

Wow, they are so cute!
It is interesting how you are using Hydrotons and spag moss. I may give that a try on my new seedlings when they arrive.
Do you grow your orchids in s/h? I just love s/h.

Yes,I use a version of S/H.
Sometimes I've not much time to water plants, and I was starting to have a few, so I placed Hydrotons at the bottom of all pots 2 or 3cms high, so when I cannot water them properly I just place a lot of them on a plastic recipient and put water there.

I use it specially in summer, till now it worked great.

In this little ones it help me with the quatity of water, instead of spraying over the plants, I put water to the Hydrotons and in a few minutes it's distributed all over with no acumulations.

Do you use s/h?

Hello,

I've Phaleonopsis, dendrobiums, zigopetalums, cimbydiums, vandas, vainilla planifolia, cattleyas... most of them hibrids.

Phalaenopsis like my house, they grow quite easy here,

Even if I have Hydrotons at the bottom of the pots I don't leave them over water all time, I could even say I don't water to much.

I love Miltoniopsis and I'm not able to keep them alive.

It's nice to talk to you, because it's the other side of the world, so I can learn many different things you do there.
