Default Hello from Mauritius

Hi all

It occurred to me that I am the only member of this board
from Mauritius. So a few pics from my place:-

These are Cryptopus Elatus, an endemic specie of here.

Now let's move to Gramatophillum "Tiger" -

I bet you would like to get a photo in full bloom. But I
am not good at photos.

And there is more than orchids. There is one of my many
Adeniums Obesum:-

Hope you all like these photos because these are the first i ever shot i my life

Hi Jean Pierre

That Gramm is fantastic!!! I love it!

Those pink ones are so pretty...they remind me of what call "Desert Rose" here in the U.S. I wonder if it's the same thing

Thanks for sharing

Nice job for your first Pictures, keep shooting and you'll get it down in no time. Keep them coming. I agree the last one looks like dessert rose. Is that your handsome son with the tomatoes? I just tilled the ground for my tomatoes to go in next weekend.

There are lots of flowers generically known as "desert rose", but Adenium obesum is one.

Thanks Suzanne, Thanks Dave

The Kid with the tomatoes is my nephew. He is so cute that he has many homes:- here at my place, at his place, at his grand parents' place (both sides) etc.... And we all think he has been kidnapped when he is not messing around. Good breed! French blood x Chinese blood x Indian blood x African Blood.... and my mother says there was a Caucasian in the 4th parentage up! His name is Alexis.

Sure Adenium is commonly called the desert rose, and originates mainly from Africa and Arabia. But quite surprisingly, the best hybrids/crosses have been achived in India, Thailand etc. Basically it's a sort of succulent which stores a lot of water in its tissues. Beware its milky sap... Very irritative to the skin.

Ray, you might be interested to know that I started quite a number of Adenium seeds in semi hydro. They are now 126 days from sowing date and look gorgeous. Would you like some pics?

Cheers from Mauritius
