I agree with you. While there is a bit of life, I will endeavour to save it. I will keep you posted on it's outcome. I have had the orchid for 12 months now, so another 12 won't hurt.

Jim, attached photo is what I did this a.m. Wrapped the orchid in spag.moss, put in an onion bag, suspended in the breeze under tree. (Onion bag to keep spag.moss intact)... See the 1 red leaf.... Will follow up this post with any developments. Keep posted.:waving

Well Jim no new development has happened, except for the 1 leaf to fall off. I will keep trying, while there is greenness of the psblbs. I will give it more time.

This may be a silly question but how can one tell if there are still viable eyes/leads?

Queenslander 10-11-2013 11:13 PM

James, a follow-up on my original post from last year. I did bin my orchid. But I tried. I have another one, with the last rites read to it, so I'm giving this one another go with the spag.moss.:goodluck:

James, an idea came to me after reading your post. I had trouble keeping all the spagnum moss together, when I was trying to save this White Spark 'Flame Cat' so this came to me, why not a little pocket made out of shadecloth. I hope this achieves the results I am waiting for.

I am just reading this thread so it is a late answer to your question. You lol at the base of he pbulbs for small new growths (eyes) anook to see if there are any of them. It they are dry and shriveled there is hope. If you try to gently scratch off the papery brown coating (if it has one) to see if it is viable he very careful not to damage or knock the off. Hth

Sorry, Esculida, I did miss your question. Yes, on this Cat. there were eyes, but had been burnt by the hot sun. I tried scraping with a sterilized blade and also dabbed on some keiki paste on the 2 spots. Then wrapped in S.M. before tucking it in the pocket I made.

I see too much red on the tops of the bulbs. Less sun, PLEASE! As long as I see "green" there is hope. I would put some moss on top of the root area, also. Keep it slightly damp. If t were mine,I would invest some time in carefully cutting off ALL of the dried up dead roots, bulbs & leaves.....BettyE
