You can always collect snow too, I do. If it's a big enough snow; I scrap the top layers off before I hit grass. I set it in my Home Depot buckets in the basement by the floor drain and let it melt. It doesn't fill up the whole bucket but you do get a good amount. ginnibug

I know someone here had problems immediately after a new roof, something that had been used poisoned a lot of plants. Like Ray says, I would let it "cure" for a while.

Other than that I've not heard of any problems with rain water. I use a "Rain Mix" fertiliser from Europe which is the same as MSU and when I have plenty of rain water I use it on everything with no problems. I only use tap water these days when I'm running short of rain water, then I save what's left for the sensitive plants.

Thank you, Rosie. I'll use other source for a while. Ginnibug, I do use snow, too. We usually have fair amount of snow. In the winter time, I should be careful because air is polluted more due to wood stove (and emission from cars). This has been a pretty serious problem of our city (who has imagined that the air quality in Alaska is as bad as in a big city).
