Do I Have A Seed-Pod On My Promenaea? Female
Question Do I Have A Seed-Pod On My Promenaea?

Ok, so i ordered four new orchids from Tropical Orchid Farm, got them a couple days ago- on Thursday (love T.O.F., will be ordering more from them in the future, great prices, and excellent personal service) and i got this one Promenaea riograndensis 'Vera Cruz' as a bonus orchid!! YAY!! it is soo cute, and pretty, and has a few blooms, and buds too!! and then night before last (thursday night), i noticed what appears to be a seed pod!!! Can someone please tell me if it is or not? Cause i am not familiar with this type of orchid, nor have i ever had a seed pod, and i don't know if it is or not!

The day i got it, there were three blooms that were, for the most part, open, although they looked a tiny bit squashed from travel, but the one with the pod looked as if it just hadn't opened yet- but i think now that it already had opened! The bloom to the left of the pod, however, was open the day i got them, but now it is closed in the same way the one with the pod is... Ya'll tell me what u think!

Pictures 1 thru 4 are from the first day (Thursday), the rest are pictures that i took last night (Friday night), after i noticed that the flower to the left of the "pod" had closed up a little.

Your dog looks absolutely ecstatic haha. To me, not being familiar with this particular genus, it looks like the ovaries are swelling in to a possible seed pod! I did a search online to see if I could find our what the pollination mechanism of this plant is but I couldn't find much - most orchids need some form of human intervention in culture - it may be different with this one though and it may have gotten the right pollination host in the sellers green house... I'll see what info I can and pm you...

The ovaries are developing into a seep capsule (pod).

Whether it will continue to grow to maturity or not, idk.

Some orchids, (depending on specific circumstances), will start the process, and then drop the pod in mid-development. You'll have to wait at least 1 month to find out if you'll potentially have seeds coming to you.

It is possible the pods may make it to maturity.
