100% humidity,Very little air movement, maybe a 12 volt 1 inch cpu fan wired directly to the adapter. very clean water such as distilled, rain. r.o. water. terrarium would be ideal as long as you have very high humidity. Your intermediate temps are fine. They like to be misted at least twice a day. I feed mine weakly weekly, grows like a weed mine does. i think the main thing is warm humid stagnent air.

hello i am new to the ghost orchid and i have read your thread and i can not understand most of what you said. could you please explain this to me in more simple words that a newbie would understand. i live in florida already so i know that things will be different for me but the basic idea of a terrarium would be useful. and the fact that i am already here what conditions would i need to keep them alive. thank you pixiedust239

Hi Pixiedust, The reason for a terrarium/aquarium is to maintain the conditions this orchid likes. They like hi humidity and not a lot a breezy air. They live in the swamps of the everglades where the summers are hot and humid. Unless you live in the swamps you will have to provide the condition artificially. The one's I see in nature generally thrive with a humidity around 50 to 60% (humidity being the amount a water in the air). And of course when it rains its much higher. Hope this helps

The ones I have gotten from Oak Hill were on the small side but the price does reflect the size! Although small I think that they could possibly survive under ideal conditions. They are simply so young(speaking only of the ones I have gotten) This does make them more difficult to cultivate. It would be hard to move them from their mounts because mine are more tiny pieces than actual whole plants. Sorry to say all this just hope you're plant is much larger! I do have a contact on larger more mature plants(see pics) although you will spend about $50.00 for these guy's. If you would like one pm and I'll hook you up.The prices on E-Bay have been crazy! Good luck with the new ghost.-Martin

are the ones that were mounted the ones you got from oak hills? i am not worried about size really, i just like how its a root, dont get me wrong, i would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to get one to bloom, but it will be in its home, for hopefully 3+ years.* I am building a pretty in-depth paludarium, that will after a year of setup house poision dart frogs.* I am trying to make this as swamp looking as possible, and know that it will take time to get all the plants from various locations, that fit my strick needs for looks.* If anyone knows what the moss (string?) that hangs from bald cypress in swampy locations is please let me know.* But yeah, i just really want one, if it dies, it will be cool to have had one for a few days hopefully though i can keep it in a terrarium setup in a bright location for its wait to enter the paludarium.

yeah, i remember hearing that somewhere, thanks for letting me know. So it came with your plant as the medium mounted with the orchid? I hope thats what you mean, cause then i would have knocked out 2 of the many plants that i need. I think im going to try to bonsai a bald cypress while one or a few are in there. I got a bunch sprouted from this summer when i collected a bunch of seeds. I need to top some, and see how they react. They seem to alread not mind being drowned in water for a while, so thats a plus. Not saying that i will allow it in the terrarium, because it has been raining for the passed 2 days, and i forgot about one, outa 30 something. anyways thanks again, and i'll let you guys know how it goes, and hopefully get more pics.
p.s. check out my pic in the gallery, it tells you what its about, and what it is, its also my avitar for the time being.

Wow 50 - 60%? The Sydney average ambient humidity is 60%! Maybe when these things get big enough i could grow them in a protected spot outside somewhere? (other than winter of course). I didn't realise they live in 60% humidity, i was expecting to have to give them their own sauna tank for the rest of their lives!
