Hey, that's great! Both you and the beastie will be much happier. I believe the Hawaiian dealers ship them in sphagnum to the big-box stores because they can guarantee the plant will live on the shelf for up to a month without water. (Impossible to rewet the stuff, however, once it dries out.) The home grower keeps the plant wayyy too wet, generally. Results? Either dry center and certain death, or fearsome rot and death.
The plant is now top heavy, so it's leaning really bad to one side, but if I put it lower in the pot, I was afraid I would break some roots. It's staked so it wouldn't fall, but I'll have to really careful until the roots start growing. I'm really glad I repotting it. If I had waited, I doubt the plant would have lived.
Thanks! I'll take pictures of it sometime soon and keep you posted!
I don't see any problems here. Several of the board members grow theres nearly horizontally! That's actually the way Phals grow in nature. I have one that leans way to the outside like this and blooms fantasticly.
I can't wait until the roots anchor in. I have a den. that leans really bad, too. But the roots have grown and anchored it in, so I don't to have to have it staked up anymore.
