Orchid Whiz, and Orchid Plus on a mac..
How much? Where to buy? How?
Do I need Windows on my mac, or can I just use Parallels to load the programs on?

Check out the following site:

Yes, you'll need to buy a copy of Windows. I find emulators can be painfully slow. Check the requirements of both AQplus and Orchidwiz and load XP rather than 7. Bootcamp might be a better option if you don't mind running Windows software outside of the Mac's OS.

I run Parallels and Windows on my Mac for both programs. However, I find loading AQPlus a !@#$% with an archaic system at AOS. When you still have to phone in to get a code to finally install (and you are trying to install at night on the West Coast or on a weekend), someone at AOS needs to take a step into the future.
On the other hand, OW loads its new programs easily, and relatively quickly for the data involved.

Yeah, but OrchidWiz doesn't have the awards data that I think he wants. yes, you need Windows for either. I run VMFusion and it isn't slow at all. It's just as fast as a Windows machine...which it virtually is. You can get most of what you want by using OrchidsPlus which is HTML based, but for now you need both AQPlus and OrchidsPlus to get complete awards results. Hopefully that won't be true for much longer. You get both for the same subscription fee so it's not a cost you. it's just an unnecessary pain..
AQPLUS has all the older awards, but not the newest ones. OrchidsPlus is just the reverse. But you won't need Windows anymore when OrchidsPlus is fully operational.

Wait, Parallels is $80. Is there a free version I could use?

You could try VirtualBox, which is free. It's originally from Sun, now Oracle. Of course you'll still need a copy of Windows.

Yes you can run OW (and AQPlus)on your Mac if you have Windows installed on the Mac. Without Windows you cannot.
You can run Windows without a virtual machine program (Parallels or VMFusion) on an intel based Mac (those from 2003 and later). You cannot run Windows on those PowerPC machines built prior to 2003. intel based Macs have an installed application called Bootcamp. Bootcamp allows you to run Windows but you have to pick Windows or OSX at startup and you have to shutdown to switch.
The virtual machine programs (parallels or Fusion) allow you to run Windows and all your OSX programs side by side. They do this by creating a virtual machine (an imaginary, software based machine that looks like PC hardware to Windows). Both programs are $80. I think Fusion is far superior to Parallels and most users agree.
The beauty of Orchids Plus is that it is an HTML based application that runs on your Internet browser so you no longer need Windows ( or any other operating system) to run OrchidsPlus. Unfortunately it is not fully operational and does not atbthisnpoint include all the data. Maybe someday, but I've been holding my breath for two years and I'm getting dizzy.

OK, so now I'm finally starting to see the light. I need a bit more info, if you guys and gals could help...
The lady I work with is also a mac user. PLUS, she has a spare mac. I could load it all on mine, or plus hers, or completely on both her machines (she is paying for it). I've read somewhere I can load OW on two machines. Can I also do this with OQ plus/OW? How about Parallels/Fusion. And which Windows program is best for these applications, without being too large. And again, can I load it up on 2 machines (macs).
Thanks for your patience, Brady

Hi All,
I have a 2011 Mac Air and a 2011 iMac and both are really easy to install Parallels. I was up and running in about 30 mins total (only because I had never used it before).
I have the full subscription to AQ Plus (both online and disc). So far I haven't had to use the disc at all. I guess I'm not really sure what the difference is between them.
The online AQ is slower but it is nice to be able to access it from any computer. Maybe I need to open up the discs and take a look?
