The flowers will drop for sure. Can you post pics of the leaves and the medium and pot it is in?

Well, I'm a beginner so I can't really help you, but a photo of the leaves would probably help a lot.

I have discovered (after forgetting to protect my Phals from direct sunlight) that the leaves tend to look depressed and feel a bit floppy to the touch. As soon as they've cooled down though they're usually back to their own selves again.

I don't know if this was of any help to you. Anyway, good luck with your Phal!

as a matter of interest, did you get the plant from Makro ? I am an ex-SA in the USA and orchids are now commonplace in all kinds of stores, didn't know that you can get them in SA in stores...
As for your phal, you may be lucky in that the flowers have heatstroke. Best thing to do is to keep the plant out of the sun and cooler, around 70f. You may lose the flowers, but not the plant.

orchidsarefun - Phalaenopsis orchids are pretty much everywhere in .za these days - very common in Woolworths shops particularly. Makro often stock them, and you'll even see them in other supermarkets from time to time (PnP etc).

Much like any living thing, orchids are always the last thing I'd pick up on a shopping trip and then go straight home!

You may find at least some of the unopened flowers survive, but the heat here in the eastern cape today was absolutely scorching. When you get it home (if you haven't already done so) give the plant a good long drink (put it in the sink full of water and leave it 10-15 minutes before pulling it out and letting the excess drain). I don't think spraying the flowers with water will help at all; if you have a cooler/more humid area of your home, try and keep it there if you can.

The car airconditioner could of saved the plant from the long trip...but if it was left inside the car in the heat it will bake...
the spike might still produce another batch of blooms...so dont cut the spike if its still green.
the plant might wilt its leaves but it will perk up when cooled down and watered...

MCairns - hopefully you didn't go too overboard on the orchid feed - think about what would happen if you drunk a glass of water with lots of salt and sugar in it if you were really thirsty, instead of water (or an isotonic beverage).

The top leaf turning yellow doesn't sound good, that's never normal. What do you mean by 'lots'of fertilizer? Too high a dosage will burn the roots.
