So I just download one of these and my OW will run?

I like free! Especially since the other programs are pretty darn expensive. Now I have to find me a copy of windows.

They just made an agreement with I think it's the Taiwan Orchid Growers (TOGA) for their photos or awarded plants. I used to have to pay $10.00 for 3 Baker's culture sheets and they are all included. Also the lineage etc. etc.

For the photos they also gladly use some from volunteers. I have pics of some orchids for which OW has no pics at all, so they sent me information on how to submit those photos.
I love my orchidwiz, I love how all the information is all in one place, there's no need to go hunting all over internet for it. And with the annual plan everything is always up to date!

Yes, they sent me info and I am submitting a CD of photos oon as well. I really use my OrchidWiz as well and also use it for a journal and a photo of each of my plants as it blooms. I do wish they had something g on pests and diseases tho, unless I have somehow just not found it??

I don't think that exists (don't remember ever seeing it), but I think that would be a very nice addition. To add it in would take a lot of work though, it's a completely different area of knowledge.
I don't really mind, I have a background in plant pathology and entomology, so am already very familiar with the common pests and diseases of plants. And I also have some very good books.

It would just be nice. I have a certificate in horticulture but orchids are a bit different beasts it seems as far as culture and what can go wrong with them. I do lots of Googling on the net and get good info from here so its not the end of the world or anything.

In my opinion, YES. My only caution would be to be careful of some of the photos. Alex has to rely on submission from a number of photographers who are only as accurate as the names, in many cases, submitted by the exhibitors in the shows they photograph.
The RHS only gives the actual registered name, parents and hybridizer of the plant in question. Great final check but no awards and no photos. However, it is free!
Santa Barbara Orchid Estate also has a free program but not as complete as Orchidwiz.
The AOS has an AOS award only program available by subscription, but I find it still cumbersome and difficult to download and access...... (I f I were not required to have it as a judge, I would not subscribe.)

I agree about the photos. For instance, for Gastrochilus japonicus, there is a photo which is not at all that orchid, it looks like Gastro obliquus. When I send in my photo CD I will let them know of the mistakes I've spotted. But sometimes there are so many photos of a given orchid that if one is false, it doesn't matter so much.
True RHS is free, but you don't get the entire family tree in one click, nor the growing info, nor a bunch of other features that make OW well worth the price.
