Hello all! I am seeking as much advice as I can get with my new T. tigrinum orchid. I am new to mounted orchids and would like to keep this beauty alive and well I have hung it in a sunny window and water everyday by soaking it in a bucket for about 10 minutes. So far, this is what I think will keep the plant happy. Please feel free to give me any and all input. Thanks so much
Sounds pretty good to me. I don't have any of those though. Most of my mounts I don't have to soak every day. I water them every day but usually don't have to soak them.
San Antonio is very humid and hot in summers and pleasant in winter...you dont need to water everyday if you hang your mounted orchid under a tree...the atmosphere will take care of it. You dont experience frost and sometimes if it is rainy(and San Antonio rain can really pour!)...you dont have to water it for a week...In fact I am surprised why you grow that plant indoors. I love the purple dots on the leaves...it gives a show of bloom for a small plant.
I would be way to worried about my orchid babies if I grew them outside, mainly because of pests. Unfortunately Texas has been an inferno this summer and we have barely had 2 good rains since January! It sure would be wonderful to have an outdoor area to grow them though! Maybe one day
I have some phals, dens, and a neo. All mounted and doing well. I will put them outside for sometime and then bring them in at night. Just soapy water will kill bugs. In the winter time I keep them inside all the time.
