Yes. I plant them to the top of the net pot in moss also. They just love the stuff .
I was trying initially to mound them like neos, but my mounding technique left a lot to be desired. Working on that still.

The water as long as its not touchin the roots isnt going to cause you any trouble. But you can drain it off if you like. Extra humidity if you need it. If you have these in an east window you can see the water in them move around from top to bottom. In the morning when its cool the water is down in the bottom. As the jar warms up some the water vaporizes and returns to the moss. It will go thru this process until it needs more watering of the moss.

Red Panda is the 1st to break loose with a bloom ..Has 3 more spikes working..this one was just planted a few months ago into the jars.

round 2 coming up of a masd. princeps X mooreana, a huayna picchu and a coccinea x regina all with spikes..

you all have to let us see yours when they bloom now

I have my net pot, fish bowl, LECA, and sphagnum moss. All I need now is a masdie.

Would a Dracula lotax work well in this setting? That's been on my wishlist forever but I never bought one since I just don't have the humidity for it. It would be growing under lights. Daytime temps get into the mid-80's, night mid-70's. How many foot candles is recommended?

Any suggestions on an easy masdie?

Dracula lotax seems to be a spiker so I dont see why not. Some dracs put out spikes thru the bottom of their containers and why you see a lot of them sold in the little hanging baskets.
An Easy masdy? the princeps x mooreana has been an easy to grow and rebloom plant for me. While the coccinea x regina crosses have been reluctant to bloom again after I plucked off all the retarded leaves. I later discovered these weren't leaves, they were spikes. Ack me big dummy!!! I learned though so it wasn't a wasted spike plucking experience. I don't know if you're seeking species or hybrids but hybrids have more of a temp range they can tolerate. They can overcome some abuse to a point where IMO species are more particular.
Find some nice hybrids that you like the size and color of the blooms and go for it

This would sure make a fun OB project one of these years

Thanks RJSquirrel! I'll start off with a hybrid and once I can grow them, I'll go for species. Now to find a place to buy it. hmmm...

its more of having a feel for the plant than actually KNOWING anything obviously in my case... thats the only way I can put it in terms that are less than specific , of which I can relate

Would this work for cooler growing Masdie's as well? I'm assuming that the amount of heat/light needed for this micro-system to work would kill cooler growing Masdie's. Is this a correct assumption?
these are all cool growing masdys as far as I know.Thats what I intended them to be any hooose. Its just too easy isnt it?

Well, I took the recommendation - sortof, lol... I dont' have any LECA at the moment. So, I found a vase that was not being used, filled it halfway with water and stuffed the Masdie in a round pot down into the hole. It's been that way for about a week now.

I am considering cutting slits into the side of the pot since it is not a netted pot, to help moisture get in. Would this be an acceptable alternative, or would it work just fine as is with the 5 manufactured holes in the bottom?

It came with a very small bloom spike on it, and of course that got blasted shortly after I had it. However, the leaves have not become dessicated like my other two Masdie's.

All 3 of mine were all crossed with the c species (can't remember the name) that's a cool grower. I have them outside right now as night time temps have been falling into the lower 50s.

So how much light are you giving these guys then? I don't know if I'm giving it enough light to get the environment working properly or not. I don't ever see any condensation on the inside.

This is facinating. I am going to have to try it. Could you tell me about how big the glass bowls are? Also all I have is NZ sphag moss. I assume that will work, but I've never had it grow for me.
Thanks
Ruth
