Growing masdies/draculas in glass bowls?

Ok, so I did 3 of them. I know the pics are mediocre. I didn't set up a shoot for them, but y'all get the picture (pun intended)!

This is top to bottom: Masd. Sunset Jaguar, Dracula erythrochaete, Masd. Rolfeana.

Thank you for the idea! I didn't use fish bowls, as I couldn't find any 1/2 gallon bowls, and I liked the look of the cube.

i have to try this! i just killed my two masdies! so ill try this when i get a new one! what is in the net pot?

I used coconut fibers... I kept it simple.

heh there ya go they look fine ...Im adopting this method for vandas after seeing vandas in glass.. I think I can put smallish vandas in these tooo..

The net pots I have is just sphagnum...anything will do heck you could probably use lint out of the dryer


and 'help'.. I could almost promise you that its a no fail at masdy's...I killed them all in clay and plastic. I will mention I have some aganax and paphs growing like this too .The aganax is going root crazee in the jar Im going to have to break the bowl to get it out bec it wasnt net potted and it needs moss clean up crew.
Thats the sole purpose of the net pot is for control.

Looks like I'm going to have to get some new net pots large enough to fit the tops of some jars or something! I can't wait to try this out.

okay. will do. how do you manage the moisture in these?

This looks like a cool idea. I have been wondering about using those net bags that come around veggies, etc. You know the ones I mean. I had some bulbs come in them and other things and just had the idea that orchids just might grow okay in them. What do you think about using those?

I never even considered growing a masdie because I just can't give it the humidity. This really has my brain rolling though...

How do you fertilize? How often?

How about using a Mason jar? Granted that wouldn't be as attractive as the green moss in a glass bowl but it might fit in a 'country style' house (or one where we just spend all our money on 'chids and don't have anything left for attractive containers).
