Dendrochilium filliforme - Orchid Board

Anyone out there having any luck with this species? Mine is alive and has two spikes, but the new leaves turn brown at the tip and it works its way down to the pseudobulb. I've sprayed with Physan 20 and this seems to stop the advance temporarily, but then it starts up again.

Growing in a warm greenhouse in Houston, Texas. Good air circulation, decent humidity, high light.

I have several dendrochilums, all in S/H, and I saw that only when I had a clogged nozzle and it didn't get enough water.

I have a few Dendrochilums and am still trying to get the knack myself. I have determined that they dislike being repotted so far..but I have not determined what mix they like best (they seem to take a while to recover from the repotting to begin with). The filiforme, glumaceum, & bicallosum I have all exhibit the same thing you are speaking of... drying out / browning of the leaves but new growth persists to start but as soon as it matures..... These are potted in medium bark in plastic pots. The wallasii I have is in fine bark in a clay pot and after an initial set-back seems to be doing better... I suspect water quality or amount is the culprit and am too looking for input on this issue...

I purchased one two months ago. It is in my south/east facing window, over the kitchen sink.

It sits in a 2" square plastic pot with a bark mix. Probably gets watered about 2x week. Presently has six leafless bulbs, two established leaves that are curling along the sides and two new shoots.

Too dry? Not enough humidity? Any suggestions?

I have found that I have to use rainwater on mine or else they will turn brown and drop leaves. I mist them every day and moisten the medium. Mine came in hanging baskets with at least the top layer spaghnum moss and they dry out in warm or dry weather. I've had good luck with them now that I've stopped with our hard local well water.

I'm using well water, but it's very soft. PH is 6.0. Could that be an issue?
