Just to let you guys know... I hauled my big-ass Den antennatum down to Redlands today. It is in the judging tent which is the first tent on the left after the entrance. Please check it out. It is not at it's very best, but I brought it anyway. It usually has twice as many spikes, but it is early in the blooming season for it right now. It got a blue (first place) ribbon from the Redlands show, but I don't know what AOS thought of it. Anyway, it is hanging from the overhead poles in the center of the tent toward the back. I am happy that it presented as well as it did. I had a very hard time getting it in the back seat of my car!

Congratulations!!
I am famous for judging my own plants and thinking that they are not good enough for show. Oftimes I have been persuaded by others and in the end I have won several awards.
Take your plants to the shows and let the judges do their thing.
Hope you are successful with the AOS judges as well.

Yes, it will still be there. They want you to leave the plants until Sunday at 4pm. So I will be there on Sunday, too. Maybe I will see you there!

Here are a couple of pictures of the plant before taking it to the show. I will take one at the show tomorrow.

What ever happened with the judging? Just curious.

I want to take a plant to an AOS judging. It's a monthly event here and apparently they do judge training at this place. It's not a "show". I don't expect this plant to take any award, but I wanted to see what goes on at these things. I think they might appreciate some plants to help with the training anyway.
The tips in the thread are good... are there any others??

I have successfully exhibited orchids for many years and I am also a judge. If you always remember a few simple facts, you will generally end up with a beautifully displayed plant, often an award and have fun:

1) Judges tend to be lazy. They want to look directly at the best flowers without having to bend, twist, or stoop to see what they need to judge.
2) Judges can be distracted by old (last year's) flower stems, dead leaves, dirty leaves, dirty pots, etc. Be sure these are removed or cleaned.
3) Focus on the flower(s). Do not let ornate cache pots distract.

Showing your orchids can be a fun and rewarding experience as well as a great way to meet other serious hobbyist growers to exchange ideas and learn of new trends in orchids. Hang in there and enjoy the ride.

Cym Ladye, thank you for the response. You answered the questions I had! I wondered about old inflorescence on these plants. Pleuros are notorious for keeping those on forever.
