Greetings Fellow Orchid Enthusiats!

By the end of Septmeber my new house will be finished. It will have solar electric and geothermal heat/AC. There will ba a greenhouse attached to my house at one end. This coming winter it may only be in one stage, because of the money I will need to put out of my pocket to get my solar panels (~$50K, but I will get close to 1/2 of that back when the State finally get's it together to give me my rebate).

So for this winter I may only have 1 stage of the greenhouse built and the other stage done next summer. The overall idea is to have a cool section and a warm section so I can divide my orchids accordingly, putting the intermediates along the dividing wall.

My question is, where can I get a good list of what goes where? For the most part I know what I need to put in which house. There are a couple of dendrobium dillemias on how long to give rest to certain species for but I do have a dendrobium book. But there are a lot of species out there not covered in any of the books I have. So, I need some good reference material. Can anyone give me some recommendations?

I was going to reccomend the exact same place. Congrats on your new Greenhouse to be Randy! It sounds very exciting. How large will it be? It must be sizeable if you are going to have different temperatures within the enclosure.

Final planned size of the greenhouse will be 24 wide by 20 long. So there will be 2 sections which will be 24 side by 10 long.

I do know about the Internet encyclopedia. I was hoping for something I could put on my shelves, like a book.

Flora's Big Book of Orchids does the same job, but again doesn't have every orchid under the sun. It does have plenty though and does a good job at explaining specific requirements. http://www.orchidboard.com/node/16

I have a book named Botanica's Orchids that has over 1200 species listed but a lot of them are 'chids I've never heard of...and not all the 'chids I'm aware of are in there. Orchidwiz is a great option for this...it's a little costly but well worth the money if you need detailed information.

Hi Randy ,congrads for your new sweet home firstly. I want to ask a question . In order to supply light to plants do you keep on the lights during the night too.? Heating of course I can understand . I think your day time is shorter than us therefore need to have lights on.

I've never needed to use lights at night here. Maybe farther North in winter, but not here.
