I own about 12 Vanda. I get them to spike and then the spike dies. I mist them twice a day they with a spray bottle they are bareroot. Once a week I mist and mist again with fertilizer. I have a fan on them all day, They are in huge west window but we have had allot of cloudy days. Any advise please?
Hum. 50 to 55%.. Temp 70 to 75 days 68 at night. We will put them outside soon but still to cold for that. They will get more sun then. We live in New England and it has been a chilly spring frost last night.
I love your optimism growing vandas in New England. My guess is that iif you sat by those orchids misting away you'd never get enough humidity for vandas. Maybe not enough light too.
That said, I'd killl to grow vandas here in NYC. If they ever bloom let me know.

I grow vandas in New England no problem there is hope! I use a HPS lamp in an enclosed space with humidifier and daily soaks. misting just won't cut it for very long.

Did you get those Vandas in spike or buds from the vendor? Chances are that those spikes had gone through the weather change on their way to get to you.
Once they get used to your growing condition, they should grow and bloom fine, I think.
if your vanda buds started to grow and then dried up and turned black you probably had an attack of thrips. They love vanda buds and will eat them all in one night.
They come searching for liquid when it is hot and dry.
