Instead of growing bareroot, you may want to consider growing them in a pot.
If the roots are too big, just get an appropriately sized bucket and start drilling holes.

If the roots are too long then you can carefully loop them like a coil of rope. You just have to do it when the roots are completely saturated and move them a little at a time.
