Great Job! Batchelors are probably one of our favorites, the flowers are just too cool. Ours is currently in bud so I should be able to post a picture of it soon as well.
No, all of mine get the bejeebers fertilized out of them. 125ppm N weekly, and I have had no problem blooming any but the jenkinsii. My atroviolaceum from the same section as Stephen Bachelor has been fertilizied regularly and is currently in full bloom on 8 spikes with 4 more coming. There are 2-4 flowers per spike. It's quite a show. The one I have in the Formosae section is also a profuse bloomer and blooms a couple times a year. My Phal type is working on 3 spikes. I think I tend to agree with Ray here, perhaps too high a concentration of N was the culprit.
I made the hybrid and it is always nice to see one of my "children". Stephen was a nice man who sadly didn't live long enough to benefit from the new protease inhibitors. One of so many.
Thank you for making this hybrid Eric. It is one of my favorite dendrobiums. I am also sorry to hear about the loss of Stephen. He must have been a very special person.
