That's the question really!
I have a hankering for a Chysis bractescens and this is what the write up from the vendor said ( I had to use Google translate )

"This plant is flowering but not flowering size delivered in 10 Oktotopf in Spaghnummoos.

Caution: This plant is a new import from Taiwan 15.05.2010. Therefore, the potted plants are fresh and not yet rooted and are only suitable for experienced orchid lovers. In addition, the plant leaf damage on the shoots, but this is not a problem, as these leaves are dropped anyway when the new shoots coming next."

Has anyone bought plants from here and what was the quality like?

Chysis bractescens - Orchideen und Orchideenzubehör der Schwerter Orchideenzucht

What I really want to know is should I just go for it and see what turns up and what I can do with it or err on the side of caution???

I purchase such plants if they are really desirable, hard to find, and/or at a really good price.

When I get them, I pot them up, put a plastic bag over the plant and pot to keep the humidity high, and place the pot on a seedling heat mat. In a matter of a few weeks, you should be well-rooted and can be given normal culture.

Be aware that some imports arrive really desiccated, making them a great deal more risky to revive.

Thank you for the response and the way to treat them if they need serious TLC.
I have just realised that the date they were imported was 9 months ago! So I have sent an email requesting info on the present condition of the plants.

Schwerter is a good honest grower, and if you receive plants with problems, they make the situation right. They import a lot of their plants from Taiwan, and I think it's very honest of them to mention what state the plants are in. I think they prefer toestablish them themselves, but will still offer them up for sale for people that really want them.

But I bet that after 9 months the plant should be pretty well established. Their plant descriptions aren't quite up to date, I ordered a phal which was supposed to be over a year from blooming, and it arrived in spike. How nice!

What else are you ordering? I'm curious! It would be a shame to order only one plant, might as well get all you can out of the shipping fees and spread the cost over several plants!
