Growers to buy from
I am looking to buy some orchids, no genus in particular, that are not in bloom, so I can be surprised when it blooms. I am a newbie.. But I thought some of the more advanced collectors might be able to help me find some growers I could contact and buy from for a decent price. I live in northern IN, but I am willing to have things shipped.. especially since it will not be in bloom.
We don't have any big nurseries or anything around here and all the places that do sell only sell plants that are in bloom. It is very limited around here :S
Thanks!!

There's always ebay... mijo, shermann are two I bought from and really got some amazing plants.
Welcome to Orchids By Hausermann On-Line Orchid catalog. too... great selection! Always healthy plants.
For some real spectacular, there is bigleaforchids.com but they are pricey but only because of high quality and the selection is rarer than your standard plants.

Have a look in the vendor feedback section of the forum, there are plenty of ideas of places to buy from.
From the top of my head, Andy's orchids, Oak Hill Gardens, Hausermann's are ncei places to shop. I think the first 2 are more species oriented. they can probably advise you on orchids that would suit your growing experience and conditions.

Forgot to mention Hausermann's is in or NEAR Chicago-- you could probably hand-pick your plants.

Don't know where in the city you live but you have at least 5 vendors west of the city. In the fall (September) they have an Orchidfest and it is an open house to visit all of them. This is the link to the 2011 festival. Chicagoland Orchid Festival

Thanks everyone.. And Jim, thanks for the info on the show. That is definitely something that I will think about going to. We are always looking for stuff to do on out days off, and that is only about 1.5 hrs from our house. So thanks again! And do they sell plants there? Or is it just a showcase? Thanks!!
