Question Bloom Cycle Question

If C. quadricolor blooms in the spring in Brazil, will it bloom in the fall/winter in Tennessee?

Or, will the plant adapt to the greenhouse / growing cycle in the USA and eventually bloom in the spring here?

I would think if it's a spring bloomer, it will bloom in spring ... generally it's light and temperature seasonal changes that initiate blooming

I was going to say the same as Sonya. However if the plant is a fresh import, it may skip a blooming as it adjusts to the 'new' spring!

Ditto to the above two comments. If it is a fresh import, then it may take some time to adjust to the seasonal variances of your particular area. If it's not a fresh import, then if the grower allowed it to bloom in the appropriate season here (temp, humidity, fertilizing, & light changes) then it will bloom in the appropriate season for the U.S. (spring). That being said, a lot of growers do not have fresh imports and have instead propogated them for years. Likewise, a lot of growers do not regulate according to season, instead opting for the maximum amount of flowers in the shortest time period for retail sale. This is why you find orchids in stores in bloom right now that should not be in bloom during this season.

I would give it from around 6 months to 1 year to naturalize to your environment and care, depending on the conditions it came from.
