I was thinking I'd be able to find a lot of information on foliar vs. root feeding for Phals and other orchids, addressing the leaf stomata and other adaptions used to conserve water....but I can't seem to find anything.

For the phals, are you referring the photosynthetic capabilities of the roots? As for the stomata and adaptations to conserve water, those things are general to all plants.

I do remember reading some articles that looked into how much phal's roots contributed to the total photosynthesis of the plant, and how much nutrient intake there was via the leaves. I have the PDFs somewhere....
