Look for fertilizers made for orchids. They usually contain no urea. Urea is great for plants in soil because it is slowly broken down by bacteria in the soil and releases nitrogen at a good rate to fertilize normal plants. Orchids are not grown in soil so the urea is not broken down and the nitrogen is not available for the orchid. The latest controversy is whether to use balanced fertilizers or low phosphorus fertilizers (the middle number in 10-10-10 or 13-3-13 is phosphorus). There are experts on both sides of that disscussion so I wouldn't worry about it at this point. Jack's Classic orchid fertilizer has been around a long time is a good basic fertilizer. MSU (low phosphorus), Norman's from orchids.com, Dyna-gro they are all good. You don't need to spend a fortune.
You could look at the MSU fertilizer sold by First Rays. I've never used it but the list of nutrients looks about right. He is a member here with lots of experience and he always has expert advice. Check out his web-site.
here in philippines the popular brand is Peter's water soluble fertilizers. there are lots of locally made fertilizer but i'm not sure of the effects. grow more fertilizer are also available but only a few outlets has this brand
Peters fertilizers were originally made by Jack Peters who now makes Jack's Classic. He sold the Peters line and started Jack's Classic as a new venture.
