what would you do

I have a huge omcinium of some sort and dont know if it is doing all that well. here are some pics and for size reference it is in a 14'' pot. Dose the one leef look to have a fungi or a sun spot??? What sould i do break it up or leave it alone?

that looks like a speculatum (sp), but i imagine, without any flowers, it's nearly impossible to be sure

First of all it looks really healthy. Second I would repot it but for my personal preference, I like specimen types so I would not divide it.

I'm with Swamper on this one. She is an absolute beauty. I would pot up a size and for the love of all things big and small keep this one together! Imagine how many years it would take to recreate a specimen like this?!!

I wouldn't worry about the spot, it's my understanding that a oncs are prone to this type of spotting.

Please do send pics when it's flowering, it must be spectacular.

Ok this plant will NOT be broken up. I just worrie about my lack of exp and the sheer size and age of this plant. Next question is their any extra care this needs and how can i encurage it to spike?

Hi, FWIW, the plant does not look in -great- shape. But it is OK, and not too bad. I noticed many of the leaves have been clipped or have died back. This could be an indication of improper watering or possibly too much fertilizer, which would cause leaf-tip die back due to salt buildup at the end. Also, if it gets too dry for too long the tips dry back.

There will come a time when you should repot( ie divide and repot - not just pot up)...the longer it goes sometimes the harder it becomes and you might be wise to get an orchid repotting 'pro' to help out. If you have the space, let it go on! I just repotted 3000 cattleyas this past month.

It does not quite resemble Oncidium sphacelatum because of the shape of the pseudobulbs, but it is very hard to tell until it does bloom.

i too would divide this one, it looks like the psuedobulbs are climbing over top of each other....and it looks like it has been too dry, or over fertilized....causing the leaves to have dry tips...the larger the pot the harder it is to keep the watering uniform.....gl
