Hi , I have run out of MSU feed and cannot get any for a few months .
So am going to use a tomato feed or another feed over winter and add Magnesium & Calcium .How can i work out how much of the two is required so the levels are roughly the same as the MSU feed ?
What should i do to get me by ?

why don't you use Peters Excel fertilizer? It's very similar to MSU and available in Europe... a link where to buy it from Germany Artikelübersicht Dünger - Orchideen Zentrum Wichmann

I am sure you can also get it in UK!

It's my understanding that most tap water sources contain calcium. Therefore, it's only necessary to add magnesium, in the form of epsom salts. Usually it's a tablespoon to a gallon of tap water. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Using the search function, this is the latest thread regarding the use of Epsom Salts. I am considering it because of a few factors...

A month ago I over fertilized and burnt many plants. After flushing heavy, I have not fertilized in 30 days (normally once weekly/weakly)

We've had monsoon rains and the only water I've been using is collected rain water.

And since some of the leaves look yellowish, I wanted to give a green boost without fertilizer.

So I am considering using Epsom Salts as a boost, and return to my routine of fertilizing in a week or two. One tablespoon per two gallons/ 2.5 tablespoons to 5 gallon bucket.

Yeah, or nay?

I use epsom salts about once a month while chids are outside perhaps twice a month indoors in winter ..lol dont know why I do more indoores but I do ...

I use a teaspoon per gal and the reason is I do s/h so it stays in the res for a while so they actuaslly have a long time to adsorb it and dont need so much

Thanks John, it poured again last night, hopefully they'lll dry out today, it's supposed to be dryer over the next couple of days. All I seem to be doing is fungicide every two or three weeks.

I have an article on my "Free Information" page on Magnesium Supplementation that explains how to match the MSU formulation with Epsom Salt. You can use a similar calculation for the calcium.

Naaahhh. Epsom salt is a relatively innocuous chemical. I've used a tablespoon per gallon without issue.
