A question for the Paph experts
Last year I bought a Paph Supersuk X Raisin Pie, which I think is Hsinying Alien. There were two different plants in the pot, which I separated when I repotted. They're both growing very strangely now. Both new growths are producing 'stems' with leaves on top. There also seem to be root nubbins forming on the stems. Ant ideas as to what is going on, and what I should do would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Kim

I can't quite see what you mean in the pics, but from the description is sounds like a keiki, never seen that on a paph before though!

Some paphs, especially maudiae crosses, are prone to that when they dont get enough light. if you want, you can repot the paphs so the root nubbin' are buried under the media so they can develop into roots. grow them in more light and you probably won't have the same problem again. good luck

True, especially if both of them are doing this. Paphs don't grow arial roots, so any roots that start developing outside of the potting medium will just dry up and turn into the nubbins you are seeing.

I'm not sure the others are correct in saying this is simply a case of not enough light. Several Paph species in this group have a tendency to do this naturally, an adaption to habitats that accumulate deep leaf litter or where they scramble among rocks.
It MAY be promoted by low light, high moisture, crowding, or media that has gone bad. Your plants look quite healthy. Repot a little deeper in fresh media and increase light slightly if you can, but these plants may always be a little leggy.
You got a nice bonus with 2 plants in one pot, and it looks like one will be a nice vinicolor and the other more green.

Thanks everyone. I grow my Paphs pretty bright, but they were sort of crowded. I'll try to move them around a bit.

You're righ on, PaphMadMan. They bloomed last year at the same time. Here's a shot. I love the vini!
