Stefpix is right, you are more likely to find green coconuts or those in the husk in ethnic areas, like Chinatowns or Central American neighborhoods especially.

Aries, where are you located?
coconuts are common. Essex street market in Manhattan.

Church, Nostrand, Rogers avenues in Brooklyn.

I would look more into the Dominican, Puertorican, Jamaican, Haitian stores. Do not see as many fresh coconuts in Chinatown, although you find great tropical produce.

Are you going to use the coconuts as orchids medium? I live in NYC, but haven't seen coconuts with the peel or husk. The peel or husk of coconuts are a little pain in the **s to seperate from the hard shell.

In NY easy. Know this guy that was in Brooklyn on Nostrand and Empire, moved a couple of blocks away on Rogers ave and Lincoln rd. plenty of places and all the korean run west indian markets on Flatbush ave and Church ave. Or the market on Essex st and Delancey in Manhattan...
