Coconut water is sometimes used in orchid seed germination media, but I've never heard of it being used otherwise. I think you would just create perfect condititons for fungal or bacterial rot to kill plants. Where did you see this?

Coconut water is clearish and comes from green coconuts. It will be labeled as coconut water. It's often sold as a health drink as well, I think it tastes great and is low in calories.

Coconut milk is white, thickish, and is made by straining the coconut meat. It will be labled as coconut milk. It is frequently used in Asian cooking, especially Thai. I've never considered drinking it alone and it is very high in calories.

If it says it's coconut water, then that is probably what it is.
