Cheryl, I was told locally at HD that they have no choice on when to display or how to display the plants they recieve. Is this not your experience?

I find that the home depots here with greenhouses keep the environment too warm. It causes the buds to fade quite fast, especially on their cymbidiums

Not so with our HD, we have an area in which gets misting daily watered manually weekly and we have built a layered plant table with a fountain running in the background from 8 to 9 daily. Our vendors/customers are having no complaints as well as management. It's up to the management/DH's to set the plant grouping makes no sense to us to have someone that is not knowledgeable in plants much less what does an does not grow in our area. With all due respect to the management, its merely one less thing they have to worry about and gives us full control..

Due to my limited space, I try to be [and often am] quite picky, but yes sometimes I do find a nice healthy 'chid -- Lowes more likely than HD in my area]that is one I wish to own.

It's like any other purchase anywhere. If the product is desired and looks to be in good condition and the price is right and you trust the seller....Sales happen.
I have gotten some nice orchids from Sun Bulb. I only wish they kept a database of their orchids for public search.

Living where I live, there isn't anywhere to buy orchids. So, once in a while I do buy at Lowe's. Our HD is about 36 miles away and they did keep orchids at one time but they were always in terrible shape.

I guess I'm a meanie but I don't buy orchids I feel sorry for. I just don't want the bother of having to try and get them to live. Been there, done that!

That is a beauty though and I'm happy that you had such good luck with it.

I've purchased the bagged orchids and have generally been pleased, especially with the Brassia (Spider Orchid) and the Brassavola nodosa (Lady of the Evening), but not so much with the Art Shade Cattleya varieties. They've been very slow to grow and after 2 1/2 years have not yet bloomed. I think I have a lighting issue and to make matters worse I just discovered what appears to be larval stage scale infestation.
