Natural sources of IBA, NAA, or regular B1?
Does anyone know if there is anything that one could find in an ordinary kitchen, house, etc. that would be a natural source of rooting hormones/boosters?
I know liquid kelp is good, but am wondering if there's anything sitting in my cupboards that I could use before spending money on a bottle of rooting hormone.

Coconut water/milk/cream. (coconut endosperm)
Banana. (bananas have vestigial seeds, but I believe the fruit is what would've been endosperm for the seeds - don't know what it'd be referred to as now)
Oatmeal. (oat endosperm)
Pineapple juice. (pH must be adjusted)
You can also look up homemade recipes for tissue culture, and some interesting things will show up.

Fascinating!
Would you make an emulsion of oatmeal, banana, etc?

You can boil the oatmeal, then strain it. The liquid is what you want.
Not sure what to do about the banana outside the context of tissue culture, but I'd imagine you can put it through a blender to make a watery paste.
It's much more easier (and cheaper) to use coconut water/milk/cream.
A blend of oatmeal water and coconut milk is good to use.

B1 can be found in normal B vitamin supplements. Also, yeast contains lots of B vitamins.
As far as hormones go, add to the list potato, turnips, rice, and probably many other root vegetables and grains.

OK, why would one go to all of the trouble of doing all of that when a drop from a bottle achieves the same - and probably a stronger concentration of hormones, too.

Willows?
I agree, spending the money is worth it opposed to putting oatmeal coconut banana slurry on your plant wondering if it might work or just make your orchid appear to have leprosy.

Also you don't know the concentration of the "homemade" hormones. I suspect they are mostly derived from the natural sources mentioned and just purified and analyzed for concentration.
Just my

Using synthetic hormones can be just as iffy for certain plants.
It's sometimes not even about where the hormones come from, but the concentration of the hormones being used as well.
Not all plants will respond to the same concentrations of hormones.
However...
She asked for homemade organic hormone alternatives, and I answered with the alternatives that I know of, and so did Royal.
While products like Superthrive, KLN, and laboratory grade phytohormones are available to hobbyists, sometimes that's not what people are looking for.
Superthrive, KLN, and laboratory grade phytohormones are effective, but it doesn't necessarily mean the homemade stuff isn't as effect or more effective depending on the situation.
I believe this is more of a convenience issue rather than an efficacy issue.
Yes, it may not be very convenient to make the homemade slurry, but that's not what was asked.

You're right, it would be easier. I do have SuperThrive, I was just curious about anything I can add or experiment with. I like knowing where different things come from- in this case, rooting hormones.
