HELP PLEASE! SEDIREA JAPONICA QUESTION

Bodaciousbonsai, you plant looks wonderful and the root system looks exceptionally vigorous. The color is a lighter green than mine which indicates that my plant was likely grown with too little light.

I'm quite late in joining this conversation, but had to respond to this. I very recently purchased a S. japonica seedling, that happened to be in spike when it arrived. I'm very impressed with your plant and its longevity. Is it still alive? Do you grow yours in a greenhouse? Do you provide a winter rest?

Today I recived Sedirea japonica 'Minmaru Shima', but it very bad.
After post box it looked like:


I washed it in a systemic fungicide solution for 30 minutes. Then dried it. Planted standard for sedirea. I do not know, I wonder if it will help: (

Sorry to tell you this, but since a healthy plant can be a little difficult, I seriously doubt that your very sick looking plant has any chance of survival. Time for the seller to replace your sick plant. You should not have to pay any sum of money for a plant that looks like that.

Grow intermediate to warm to get it going. I'd use medium grade bark instead of moss, but it's up to you.

Bright shade.

If the roots are ok, the plant can still bounce back. Keep the roots alive.

Although it is technically closer in relation to Aerides, it behaves like a much hardier Phal, imo.

Jerry, thanks for the bitter truth. The seller lives for 5000 km from me. The risk with such long delivery distances is very high. A new plant can come to me in the same condition.

Thanks for the advice on the occasion of the Sedirea. My temperature is now from +16 C to +24 C. I planted the Sedirea into a mixture of small bark and moss, in the center of the planting emptiness. Sphagnum just on top, as in the classic Japanese landings. Thanks again for the tips. I really hope that she changes her mind to die.

You're welcome, I hope your Sedirea japonica can make it. Don't give up on it until it gives up. I won't guarantee that it will make it, but at least you have another shot at seeing what you can do for it.

Regarding the Porpax. Porpax spp. are not really the easiest orchids to grow, so I hope what I mentioned a while ago is able to help you out. I've found that they tend to rot out pretty easy if certain conditions are not met. Like I've mentioned in the past, they don't like moss underneath them. You're better off growing them directly on a tree fern mount and keeping them in an intermediate to warm location with moderate humidity under bright shade. As a reminder, they have a growing period and a dormancy period, so watch out for this.
