Microterangis Hildebrandtii

Hi! I recently picked up a Microterangis Hildebrandtii at an orchid show and it doesn't seem to happy with me...maybe its getting too much light in my south windows?

I should probably include some more information so you can see how I'm growing it now:

1. light: south window
2. Watering: 1-2x a week (small pot so it dries out quick) every other time it gets fert
3. Humidity: 60%
4. Good air movement
5. Media: coarse bark, no sphag or fine particulates

I was wondering if anyone has grown these before with success and what their culture was? Thanks! Becky

It has similar cultural requirements to that of Aerangis to which it is closely related.

My experience with Aerangis is limited, but I have grown Aerangis fastuosa.

Since they're about the same size vegetatively and they're related, I'll make a few comments which I think may help you out.

1. I recommend mounted culture versus potted culture.

2. They grow in bright shade.

3. Your humidity is fine.

4. Grow intermediate to warm (60 F to 95 F).

I have one of these. Killed my first one, but my second is doing well (2 spikes currently growing). I have it mounted on cork in my terrarium where I would say it's getting fairly shady conditions except for when the sun directly hits it, humidity around 85% 24/7, and temperatures ranging as low as 15C in the winter to as high as 30C in the summer. I have a fogger going on it periodically through the day, especially during the summer to keep it from getting too hot (the light in my terrarium comes primarily from the sun through my south facing window).

I suspect dry heat is what killed my first plant. It was getting bright light in relatively warm/dry growing area. It was lit by four t5s, temps consistently in the high 20s (celcius) and humidity rarely climbed above 40%. Even though I watered it at least once a day it always looked parched.

Unfortunately the Bakers don't seem to have a culture sheet for this one and there isn't a lot of information on the web, so it's been a bit of trial and error for me.

Thanks for the replies! I think I was giving it too much sun - I am going to move it so it get some shade under my cattleyas. Nothing in particular is wrong with it; I just see that one of the leaves are getting yellow and the leaves in general are getting a bit flexible because its gotten too dry, but I've started watering it more often and think I will see an improvement soon Thanks all!
