I don't use beer on my orchids. Imagine they start complaining about a hang over the next day and ask for more!. I've heard people use asperin on plants too, maybe that would relieve their headache then...

But now serious... I don't use beer on my orchids and never heard/read from others they use it...

All kidding aside,or maybe not, according to Gerry Baker in the book"Terrific Garden Tonics" beer serves as an enzyme activator to release nutrients in the soil/potting mix.He also uses urine, cola ,tobacco tea,and a ton of other stuff to concoct bug sprays, fertilizer, lawn and garden tonics, and animal repellents. Here is a sample:Add one can of beer plus one ounce liquid dish soap to one gallon water.Use in place of plain water when mixing fertilizer.

Cool

I use Jerry Baker tonics which include beer, amonia, epson salt, lemon dish liquid on my lawn and have a very very green lawn. It works.

I am not a chemist nor a botanist but beer does work well as a fertilizer on Vandas. Pour stale beer in one of the small vials with the slit, green rubber top that florists use and insert a fat, green tipped, healthy Vanda root into the vial. It will absorb all of the beer and probably provides the plant with sugars that it needs. If there are any botanists among us maybe one will explain the benefit.

Thanks all of you who have posted. I had some good laughs, almost bought a 6 pack, and learned something along the way. Does anyone use vodka by any chance? I heard that does wonders for the plants too, and the good thing about vodka is that you only need a tsp. per liter of water. Don't ask where the rest is going.

Growth should be obviously improved in about three weeks.

I use grain alcohol, a half teaspoon to a gallon, once a month. Supposedly, this provides sugar directly to the plant without it having to break anything down.
