These are angraecoids that enjoy relatively high humidity although it's not absolutely essential. Temps depend on where a particular species comes from, ie highland jumelleas typically like lower temps. Which one were you thinking of getting? :-)

I'm thinking of the arachnantha to begin with.

Here are the two that I have...

Jumellea arachnantha x Jumellea comorensis
Jumellea arachnantha x Jumellea fragrans

I purchased a couple of the first one a year ago from a fellow here in Southern California who had been growing them outdoors for several years. Both are mounted with live Spanish Moss wrapped around the roots...one on the trellis in my shade shelter area and the other on my Cedar Tree. Last winter they had no problem with our low of 33F and while both bloomed earlier in the year...the one on the trellis has grown more vigorously than the one on the Cedar Tree. Probably because the one on the Cedar tree receives some direct, not-so-late afternoon sun.

The second one I picked up July this year at SBOE as a small $7.50 special. It's in a shadier area mounted on a wooden plank without any moss. So far it's put out some small roots but not much growth yet. SBOE has it tagged as temperature tolerant so hopefully it will take our winter cold.

Can they be potted at all? Or MUST they be mounted?

Thanks for the information.

The Jumellea arachnantha x Jumellea comorensis were happily potted in large sized bark when I purchased them. The Jumellea arachnantha x Jumellea fragrans was bareroot when I purchased it but I'd be very surprised if the SBOE doesn't grow them in pots.
