How do you grow Telipogon? Male
Default How do you grow Telipogon?

Hi there!

I wonder how you that have Telipogon at home grow them?
Would be intresting to see diffrent types of growing media, if they are mounted, potted etc..

Have some that are on their way to me from O&M in Europe.

Seen some pictures were they grow in pots. But then some say their roots should not be covered my moss etc.

Thank you

Pontus

Hi Pontus

In general Telipogon are considered very hard to grow!

They need:
High humidity
High air movement
Never dry out
cool conditions

I know that Micke at Dusk has got good result recently with his new Epiweb-IIS system (night temp, about 13-15°C and daytemp 20-22°C.)

Hi there.

Have tried them before , then one survived for about 4 months. But now I am more used to growing cool growing ones.

The thing now is that I would like to see diffrent plants at diffrent growers. Always good to see that because then you get a lot of inspiration how others grow them.

Have seen Mickeīs Telipogonīs. Looks great! He is very good at this. His growing methods is very inspiring to me.
Hve seen his pictures when he grow them on Epiweb, seen some others that grow them in pots (witch I didnīt think worked). So hope to get some photos/text about how members grow them.

Donīt seems that many grow them here at the forum. Probably because they are so difficult.

Hi;
I also love them, have seen them in their native habitat, and have tried growing them 3 times, with no succeess, even if I thought I gave them what they need.
The thing I found is that they are very delicate plants, with no room for error. They have no storage systems;once they go down, they go down fast.
They are succeptible to rots,so air circulation is essential.
Having said all that though,I;ve seen them growing with Pleurothallids at J&L orchids in Connecticut,so if you can establish a strong plant, chances are good that it'll make it.
Good luck
Spiro

Default My refrigerator for growing cold growing Telipogons and Lepanthes

I recently converted a fridge into a wardian case. An electrician friend put a variable thermostat on it so I can manually change the temperature for now. Eventually I will automate it so that it varies from 10-12c to 20-22c and back over the course of 24hrs.

I just added a mesh cage to hang mounts on and for stepped shelves. I also added a pane of glass sealed in with bathroom silicone at the bottom. This serves to catch water run off, as well as boost humidity. I am just waiting on some live sphagnum moss, and new fans to arrive in the post and I will do some deflasking with the cold grower flasks from Ecuagenera . Flasks I have are Fernandezia maculata, Dracula chiroptera xanthina, Telipogon thomasii and a number of cold growing Lepanthes.

I get 85% humidity as it is, but will add a fogger soon too.
