Default Whatsit?

This orchid was given to me and I haven't a clue as to what it is or what to do with it. I think it's a dendrobium, but it doesn't look like my other 2 poor specimens. I was told to mount it on something, but it looks like it was grown in sand (I live in FL); the person sending it to me lived in south FL. It has been growing flat, not upright, and the canes? pseudobulbs? nearest the bottom have what look like rotted or dark brown areas. I hope the pics attach somehow, if not they are in my gallery. Any ideas?
Catlady

The pics didn't attach. I find this the easiest way to do it:

Gin I think you're right. I think the best thing will be to mount it on something and hang it outside.

Ooops! I added the link for thumbnails and forgot to post an answer to the question...

I think it looks like a Schom also but the canes are much thicker than the Schom tibicinus that I have so I'm thinking a different type. Mine is mounted on cork and loving it!
