Default Warning! Mini Oncidium

Beware all you "moderator's". I just noticed that I graduated from Jr. Member to Member. Oh yea, I'm suppose to be talking about orchids. I bought a "mini oncidium" today. Yes, in bloom and quite cute. Unfortunately the tag only indicates "Mini Oncidium" no specific name. What can you expect from the big box (HD). But it was a good deal ($6.) and I will enjoy just the same.

Try googling Onc. Twinkle. They're quite common, and that would be my guess, but w/o seeing it its pretty much a crap shoot, and no matter what, IDing a No ID plant is always iffy at best.

It could also be an equitant oncidium and if it is there is probably no identifying it unless it is a meristem. The seed grown plants can be almost any combination of colors.

Thanks to Susan and Erin. Been out of town but now home. Thanks Tusker, I did do the googling and it just may be a "Twinkle". At least it looks like it may be. Name or no name I will enjoy every time it blooms!

I fell in love with these when I saw someone post a pic of theirs growing and blooming inside a vivarium. I went off and bought my self a Tolumnia. Closest I could find to a miniature Oncidium. Could yours be that? Thanks for being a member of Orchid Board, and hopefully you will stick around for a long long time. That goes for everyone, including me.

I do beleive I found the proper name for my mini onc. That is: "Onc. Passionata 'Red Galaxy' " Today I just happened to be in the big box (Lowes) and there were a dozen or so all of which were just like mine with the name I listed above. Maybe I just happened to pick up the one that had no name on it. How's that for luck?

Hi Don,
I bought a mini onc at an orchid show in March. It's name is Onc. Popoki Mitzi look on my gallery I posted it. You might be lucky and have a name after all when it blooms. Mine is in a tiny pot and keeps growing. Waiting for it to bloom again. Good luck.
Lorraine
