New Orchid Buying Protocol
Default

I only have a moderate collection (~200 plants). Trusted sources is the first step. Second, I only grow species and emphasize variety, so any one thing is unlikely to kill the entire collection. I don't have Phals (except on P. parishii), no catleyas, no -pediums.

Upon arrival/purchase, there is a visual inspection of the plant and cleaning any dead leaves, old stems etc. I have not used any pesticides or fungicides; I have done dry ice (solid CO2) treatment of my terrarium to get rid of some isopods and myriapods (twice in 5 years). I don't mind a few snails, or a fly in my mini-GH. After all, in nature these plants are not found in a sterile environment. As I don't care about AOS awards, if a leaf has a chew, I don't mind. I much more dislike putting poison into the environment, and exposing myself to it. It's a trade-off, but one I am happy with.
I do repot only if I don't like the potting approach, usually it is taking a potted plant and mount it either on stick or on bark.
