You may be right about water droplet instead of bugs but would try to raise humidity rather than water real often. Plants do well outside in Florida alright - but a green house can get very dry - mist - water the staging - anything to keep the same humidity that comes into the greenhouse before it is heated. The plant does look healthy!

some of mine are mounted, and are grown outside. I water daily, and during weekends twice daily. I live in Florida.

I grow in a g/h in KY - my rule is if the sun is out, water it but if it is cloudy, skip it.

On cloudy days and at night, your humidity should get quite high. It should be humid in the mornings until the sun heats it up, then rather low until evening.

In the winter when it is cloudy with no sun and the heater runs all day, the humidity will still be high enough you won't have to worry. If it rains, it will drip off the ceiling :>)

Relax, the plant will do great.

Brooke

It's a very healthy looking plant, Howard! Don't forget to send pictures to us later when it blooms for you.

Remember, just because I grow in a GH, I live in Michigan not Florida or Hawaii where humidity is only a problem for us humans!

It is one very healthy looking plant.

But reduce the watering. This orchid likes to grow much drier than other Cattleya. Watering the roots is a good way to grow it.

I grow mine in baskets to keep them drier. I think as healthy as you find this plant if you removed it from the basket you might not find any healthy roots. It is just the way it grows. 75% of the ones I buy do not have any good roots in the pot.

It makes up for all the fuss with beautiful 3 1/2 inch pale blue flowers that are usually fragrant. I say usually since this year none were fragrant and no one knows why. Last year the scent was beautiful.

Gorgeous plant, gorgeous roots. This looks great hanging in the basket, Doc. The blooms on these are soooooo pretty. Can't advise for in the GH. All of mine are hanging from a palm tree...neglected, sometimes dry for weeks on end and the Catts. continue to grow new leads and bloom no matter what.

Enjoy!

That's 'cause you live in Florida. My dad had four or five phals that he tried to grow on his lanai in Stuart. They never did much until he hung them under some ugly looking tree in the back yard.... what a difference location can make! Not only did they thrive but the flowers were just huge and so numerous with branching spikes... a sight to see!

I grow mostly everything in baskets - some without media as well. I water about every 3 to 4 days and mist the roots once in the AM daily. Everything grows well and blooms well with this practice.
Ambient humidity is kept at 50% during the day and 70% + at night. Fans provide good air movement.
Hope that this helps.
