I know the feeling regarding the cost. What Beeps me off is that in Thailand, Phyto is optional. That is, it is only ever used when the official decided to get off his/her fat behind and actually do the job - trust me, I have spent 3 hours in a Thai customs office and the description is true.. Pathetically lazy people who rarely move off the chair; a 1.5 hour coffee break is a great perk.
I recently got some flasks from Troy, and paid the phyto fee for and the flasks came, no fault on his side and I get his need to issue a phyto. However, it annoys me like hell to part with $150 and to still see the phyto cert attached to the box when it arrives - package inspected with the lovely customs tape to say so, phyto neatly wrapped in a sealed plastic enveloped that has never been broken. I can post the pic.
I got a Thai buddy to call customs and they said, "yeah, you need it, but we only check for it when we feel like it". I cant believe the buffoon actually said as much in Thai.
Sorry for the rant. I am just peeved off. So for me, getting as many flasks in a batch as possible is necessary to make it worth the expense of the fee for Troy's state.
You may not be aware that the fee varies from US state to state. North Carolina only charges US $50. Its all about revenue LOL...
