Default purple and green speckled leaves

I inherited this plant. Its in soil but was identified as an orchid. I am the newest of the newbies but when in doubt, go to those who will know. Please someone tell me what this is and how to care for it.

It is not an orchid. It is likely Scilla violacea, a lily native to South Africa.

It can be grown in regular potting soil, in moderate light and temperatures - "subtropical" conditions.

Thanks Ray. Can't tell you how thrilled I am to discover I have a new specimen for my collection rather than an orchid with which I have no knowledge or experience!
