noid oncidium virus? Male
Default noid oncidium virus?

I was given this NOID oncidium the other day. It had some mealy bugs and what appears to be fungal spotting on the leaves. I've removed all visible mealies and sprayed with Safer 3-in-1 (which leaves behind a white gunky residue.)

When I received it, there were no open blooms. But now that they're starting to open, I'm noticing odd color patterns. Maybe it's color breaking?

Also, the yellowing in the middle of the leaf with odd spotting makes me think maybe this plant has a virus? It's been separated from the rest of my plants, so no worries about that.

Do you guys think this could be a virus?

I'm not an expert but the colour may be due to the spray you used..? I had that happen to a phal I had & sprayed (mealies as well)..hopefully someone 'who really knows ' will tell us more.

i just used the spray the night before last and the coloring has been there since i received it. the spray hasn't made any noticeable changes other than killing the mealies.

Pull the plant out of the pot , I think you will find that the root system has rot . Trim the dead roots and repot into fresh media.
Plants that are in a weakened state always seem to attract more bugs and fungus than usual I suppose it is natures way of returning sick plants to the earth.
The yellowing is normal for a leave that is about to die on an older back bulb , however if the leaf is on a new shoot the it could be a fungal problem in which case I would spray the plant with a systemic fungicide. the black spots on the leaves are most probably as a result of insect damage . It looks like a nice plant to save , good luck.

You are right there are many insecticides that are too strong for orchids and cause the sort of damage you see on this plant in particular systemic poisons sprayed when the plant is initiating the plower spike would seem to do the sort of damage seen on this plant

The flowers look normal to me. Maybe the mealies have also gotten established among the roots causing damage.

The coloring on the back of the leaf is normal for the Colm. Wildcat. I'd guess yours is 'Bobcat.' I've got that one too. Great bloomer, mine is just opening up now, but unfortunately just tested positive for cymbidium mosaic virus. It's very hard sometimes to tell visually if a plant has a virus until it is very bad. I have a plant that has yellowing just like yours does that tested negative. If the yellowing is on an older leaf I'd guess it's just normal aging, if it's newer growth, there is something else going on.

your plant is healthy so dont need to frantic about it... there are some chids that has defects due to genes... oncidiums like sharry baby has the genes to do leaf spotting.
